Over coming my fear

Horses are more than just fun to ride. They can be intimidating creatures that takes a confident hand. It takes true passion and desire to over come the obstacles that are part of the responsibility of owning a horse. Knowing that you are bound to get hurt, but having the will to keep trying.
I went through a lot with my first horse “Tess” in 2005, I was kicked, put into a chain link fence which took 11 stitches in my arm and thrown from her in the mountains. It was nearly impossible to do ground work with her and I had no desire to ride her.
I became very frightened and chose to sell her and give up on my passion. It killed me to make that decision. I have loved horses since I was a little girl and always dreamed of owning my very own.

In February 2007 my husband and I fell in love with a beautiful gelding named “Beau”. There was just something about him that we could not resist. So we went into a purchase agreement with the owner because he was the perfect horse for my husband.
(no way, no how was I going to do anything with him). I would have panic attacks when I would get with in a few feet of any horse. Especially when they would run kick and play.
For Christmas 2007 my husband signed over Beau to me as my Christmas gift. Oddly enough I was devastated that he would do that and I refused to except his gift. I truly wanted for him to have this horse he is so good with him and Beau respects him. And I was still "traumatized” by Tess.
In March we moved Beau to a new barn where we had to clean his stalls and had the opportunity to spend more time with him. I had the opportunity to work on my fears without feeling pressured. By May I was able to do ground work with him and ride him as well. I never thought I would over come it. It is now July we have moved him to the property we have been working on for the last two years. My husband told me that I either need to give it 100% or sell him. Then something just clicked, I have now excepted the gift from my husband and have taken over ownership of Beau. We spend every night down there working with him. I now can walk out to the middle of his pasture with him trotting towards me, halter him and lead him around the property without fear. It is truly amazing to look back and realize how I am over coming my fears and learning to enjoy it again. We have not rode him since we moved him but we are working up to it. I know that I still have a lot to work on, after all I have not over come my fear of riding yet. BUT I WILL =0)
It feels good to say “I own a horse” again…..
Thank you Jer for believing in me and not giving up!!

In a blink of an eye

Well today my baby started 6th grade. In what seems to be a blink of an eye they grow up. He was so excited to go to school. We were there to meet his teacher at 7:45 this morning. We were done by 8:00 and I asked him if he wanted me to take him back home for a while because he still had an hour until school started. He said nope I want to wait here for my friends..... Sniff, sniff (from mom)
